HLTAID009 - Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation
Gain the confidence to act when every second counts. This course equips you with the essential skills to recognise cardiac arrest, respond rapidly, and deliver life-saving CPR in line with Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) guidelines.
-
Cardiac arrest is a life-threatening medical emergency where immediate action can mean the difference between life and death. Prompt recognition, rapid decision-making, and early intervention are critical to improving survival outcomes.
This course provides the essential knowledge and practical skills required to recognise and respond to a cardiac emergency. You will learn how to assess an unconscious casualty, call for emergency assistance, and perform effective cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) to support a person who is not breathing normally.
Delivered in accordance with Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) guidelines, the training includes the safe and effective use of an automated external defibrillator (AED), techniques to maintain continuous chest compressions with minimal interruption, and appropriate management of complications such as regurgitation or vomiting.
The course also prepares you to confidently communicate accurate incident information when handing over to emergency services, and to reflect on emergency situations, including recognising potential psychological impacts on yourself and others. This supports ongoing skill development, resilience, and improved response in future emergencies.
Suitable for both workplace and community settings, this training builds the confidence and capability to respond effectively in a cardiac emergency.
