HLTAID010-Provide basic emergency life support
Master the essential skills needed to manage critical incidents with confidence. This course focuses on the immediate response required to stabilise a casualty, starting with a thorough scene assessment to ensure safety for both the rescuer and the victim. You will learn the vital protocols for accessing emergency services while utilising available resources to provide life-saving intervention.
The curriculum emphasises hands-on mastery of high-quality CPR and the correct operation of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED). Beyond cardiac arrest, you will gain the expertise to manage severe respiratory distress by administering asthma medication and using adrenaline autoinjectors for anaphylaxis. The training also covers practical techniques for clearing obstructed airways in choking victims and provides the necessary tools to treat non-life-threatening bleeding and shock.

Having the skills, knowledge, and confidence to recognise and respect and respond to life-threatening emergencies can save a person's life! In this first aid course, you will learn these first aid skills in line with legal, workplace and community considerations, Australian Resuscitation Council guidelines and other Australian national peak clinical bodies. The course covers assessing the casualty, providing safety, accessing emergency services, and using resources to provide first aid, such as providing CPR and using a defibrillator, administering an autoinjector for anaphylaxis, administering asthma medication, assisting someone choking, managing casualties with non-life-threatening bleeding and shock.

Flexible Training Formats
Refresher Training Designed for those with current or recently expired qualifications, this streamlined 3-hour face-to-face session focuses on updating your practical skills.
Blended Delivery This efficient option combines 2.5 hours of self-paced online pre-study with a focused 3-hour in-person practical workshop.
Full Face-to-Face Instruction Ideal for new learners or those who prefer comprehensive in-person guidance, this delivery involves a minimum of 4 hours of supervised classroom instruction.
Online with Face-to-Face Assessment Complete your theory online and attend a high-intensity, at least 35 minutes of in-person practical assessment.

As part of your training, your skills and knowledge will be assessed through a mix of practical hands-on tasks, simulated emergency scenarios, and a short-written test.

To take part in this course, you'll need to be physically able to complete the practical activities—this includes performing 2 minutes of uninterrupted CPR on the floor without stopping.

To complete the online/pre-course study, students will need access to a computer, tablet, or smartphone with an internet connection.

When you successfully complete this course, you will receive a Statement of Attainment for: HLTAID010 - Provide basic emergency life support and HLTAID009 - Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation. In line with the First Aid in the Workplace Code of Practice and the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) guidelines: This certificate has an industry renewal recommendation of every 3 years. CPR and advanced resuscitation skills (HLTAID009/HLTAID015) should be refreshed every 12 months to stay current and confident.
