HLTAID012 – Provide First Aid in an Education and Care Setting

Delivered in accordance with Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) Guidelines

This course provides specialised child-focused first aid training, covering high-risk scenarios such as anaphylaxis and asthma, as well as common childhood injuries and resuscitation techniques.

Delivered by Heart Restart trainers with extensive experience in Medical, Nursing and Allied Health Education and Leadership, participants gain practical knowledge and confidence to provide effective first aid when it matters most.

This course is delivered as a blended program combining online learning with face-to-face practical training.

  • Online pre-course learning component
  • Hands-on practical training and assessment
  • Training available at your workplace or a Heart Restart training venue

Participants will develop the skills and confidence required to provide effective first aid responses within education and care environments.

  • Apply the DRSABCD action plan
  • Perform CPR and manage unconscious, breathing casualties
  • Use a defibrillator (AED)
  • Respond to anaphylaxis and asthma emergencies
  • Manage wounds, bleeding, burns and shock
  • Treat strains, sprains, fractures, dislocations and head, neck or spinal injuries
  • Manage choking, bites, stings and poisoning incidents
  • Recognise heat and cold related illnesses
  • Implement infection control, safety and risk management procedures
  • Understand legal and workplace considerations relating to first aid
  • Understand basic anatomy and physiology, including differences between adults, children and infants in relation to CPR and emergency care

Blended Delivery

This course includes online pre-course learning followed by practical face-to-face training.

Duration: 7 hours face-to-face plus online pre-course work

Your skills and knowledge will be assessed through a combination of practical hands-on tasks, simulated emergency scenarios and a short written test.

Per Participant

Includes training, assessment and nationally recognised certification upon successful completion.

To participate in this course, students must be physically able to complete the practical activities required.

This includes performing:

  • 2 minutes of uninterrupted CPR on the floor without stopping

To complete the online/pre-course study component, students will need access to:

  • Computer, tablet or smartphone
  • Internet connection

This nationally recognised certification supports educators, childcare workers and care providers to respond confidently to first aid emergencies involving children and infants.
